“Torres does vital, admirable work, and fans of her show as well as animal lovers in general will enjoy these warm-hearted recollections.” (Booklist)“Readers get to know Torres through the stories of dogs who played special roles in her life...Each pit bull profiled shows the potential in rescue dogs, regardless of their backgrounds. Animal-loving readers will be drawn to Torres’s commitment to the ‘underdogs’ she has spent her life caring for.” (Library Journal) Tia Torres is the founder and proprietor of Villalobos Rescue Center, the largest Pit Bull facility in the United States, and the star of the hugely popular Animal Planet show Pit Bulls & Parolees, which has been on the air since 2009. After serving six years in the army, Torres worked for a Los Angeles city program to curb gang violence, serving as a liaison between the city and gang members. She also became an advocate for Pit Bulls, forming the Pit Bull Support Group, which offered free classes and assistance for Pit Bull owners. In 2006, she launched Underdawgz, a program that pairs parolees with rescue dogs. Tia lives somewhere in the swamps of south Louisiana with eight dogs.

From one of the most respected figures in the dog rescue community come the harrowing, funny, and inspiring stories of nine incredible dogs that shaped her life.

Tia Torres, beloved underdog advocate and star of Animal Planet's hit show Pit Bulls & Parolees, chronicles her roller-coaster life in this heartwarming memoir featuring some of her best-loved dogs. With inimitable honesty and characteristic brashness, Tia captures the spirit and heart of these intelligent and loving canines, while carrying us behind the scenes of her TV show, into the heart of post-Katrina New Orleans, onto the soundstages of Hollywood films, and even to the jungles of Sri Lanka.

Tia has devoted her life to shattering the stereotype that pit bulls are dangerous, vicious predators. As the top dog at the Villalobos Rescue Center in New Orleans, the largest pit bull rescue in the United States, she and her team have rescued, rehabilitated, and rehomed hundreds of animals that might otherwise have been destroyed. As she puts it, "Most of the stories in this book are about animals (and a few humans) that needed someone to believe in them and a purpose in order to show their true nobility."

Each dog Tia writes about here has overcome abuse, trauma, neglect, or just bad luck to become a stalwart, loving companion to Tia and her family. You'll meet Duke, whose intelligence and matinee-idol looks made him a star in movies and music videos; Junkyard Joe, whose single-minded passion for tennis balls was channeled into expertise as a drug-sniffing dog; Bluie, the unswerving protector of Tia's daughter Tania; and a host of other unforgettable canines.

My Life Among the Underdogs is above all a love story--one that is sure to grip the heart of anyone who has ever loved a dog.

Read it in one sitting! Loved this book - it was heartfelt and shared wonderful stories about the dogs who were the stars in their owners eyes. I was moved by the stories and admire the thought behind it. Well done! It's about the dogs! I am a regular watcher of the program (though mostly in reruns). Tia and her family and parolee workers are always entertaining. And you can't help but grasp the love that they have for the dogs. But this was special ... in that it delves into the back stories of dogs that have been pivotal in Tie's live and the lives of her children. The extra benefit is that she is a really good writer ... something that many who sell books can't honestly say! I'd be surprised if you didn't find yourself belly-laughing at one scene and weeping at another. Which is at the heart of every relationship we have with our dogs. Buy it ... read it ... pass the word! This is a MUST READ book. I laughed my ass off and then sobbed so loudly and long I thought my heart would break. I should not have been surprised at how well this book is written. You will experience every emotion with a vengance. I know I did. It is a beautiful heartwarming and uplifting true story. You will cheer for Tia and her loving close family. I loved them for yrs. I have watched pitbull and people's from the begonning. I knew I was right that the REAL REALITY series was really real and unscripted. It is one of the very few REALITY shows that is truly "real". The book confirmed what I already knew in my heart.I literally just finished reading Tia's story. It took me a little over four hours straight. I couldn't put them his book down. I am a prolific reader. I only read non fic. books. I pre-order this book a month in advance. I was literally counting the days. Her journey, and the journey of her famil, rescue is truly amazing and greatly inspiring. This book should be a MUST read for all shelters. This is a true work of learning and growth.please read this amazing, amazing journey that Tia takes you on. I didn't want to stop reading at the end of the book. I hunger for much more from her. She's a truly gifted writer. Tia, please keep writing. I know you have hundreds of not thousands of more stories to share. It would be egregious to keep all this inside yourself and not share your journey with the world. What took you so long? Tia Torres is definitely one of a kind. Unfortunately they broke the mold when they made her!! My favorite story is Duke. I knew that was his tattoo on your right shoulder.Thank you Tia for this wonderful and amazing journey you took me on. I will never forget this book. NEVER..... My heartfelt thanks too you, your family and your rescue that comes into our homes year after year. It is always a learning experience watching a!I of you with unconditional love for all the underdogs. I have a chronic/terminal illness. I have been very sick for yrs. I thank you for your tenacity and courage and above all your love of your dogs/animals. I for one will NEVER forget this amazing journey you have taken me on. You are a very bright light in my own bullish life. Thanks again Tia.....

Dark Tide Pdf

Title: Dark Tide Pdf The Great Boston Molasses Flood of 1919
A new 100th anniversary edition of the only adult book on one of the odder disasters in US history—and the greed, disregard for poor immigrants, and lack of safety standards that led to it.

Around noon on January 15, 1919, a group of firefighters were playing cards in Boston’s North End when they heard a tremendous crash. It was like roaring surf, one of them said later. Like a runaway two-horse team smashing through a fence, said another. A third firefighter jumped up from his chair to look out a window—“Oh my God!” he shouted to the other men, “Run!” A 50-foot-tall steel tank filled with 2.3 million gallons of molasses had just collapsed on Boston’s waterfront, disgorging its contents as a 15-foot-high wave of molasses that at its outset traveled at 35 miles an hour. It demolished wooden homes, even the brick fire station. The number of dead wasn’t known for days. It would be years before a landmark court battle determined who was responsible for the disaster.

Fascinating book with incredibly thorough background information and engrossing story-telling We learned tidbits about the "molassacre" from a bus tour guide on our trip to Boston in 2018. He off-handedly recommend this book so I ordered it when we got home. What a fascinating story!I really enjoyed this book. It covers so much, from the history of the molasses trade (including how pivotal it was to slavery in the US), to presidential campaigns of that time, our involvement in WWI, the labor tensions and "Big Business" climate and the anarchist activity (including the trial and execution of Sacco and Vanzetti). I learned a ton and developed a wider context for the period of time between about 1915 and 1930. It even had some interesting overlap with what I had read recently in the Jungle. There were extensive accounts of personal histories and very detailed backgrounds of the political, geographical and cultural situation of that time, including some fun facts (for example, that Harding was the first US president to arrive at his inauguration in an automobile instead of horse-drawn carriage, and what that signified for the automotive industry). I was fascinated with this background information and thought the author did a phenomenal job with setting the stage and tying together so many different aspects of the story.Puleo is a great writer and I was easily engrossed in the many aspects relating to this event. His witty, compelling and colorful writing turned dry facts into a very engaging, personal narrative about an event that I had never heard of before our trip and demonstrated connections between it and so many other events and perspectives from that time and beyond.I think my favorite part of the book was Part 3, in which the author recounts the details of the court case against the US Industrial Alcohol Company. Using unearthed official court records, he was able to quote extensively from the leading lawyers, witnesses and the auditor of the case, Hugh W. Ogden. It was more interesting than (and often as dramatic as) a Law and Order episode. The author goes into great detail in a "bibliographic essay" in the back of the book about his sources and the dozens of books one could read for more information. His research is very impressive and I really appreciated the effort he took to show where he got his sources and how he applied them. This is a fine example of taking one event and telling its story in such a way that educates the reader on that event plus all kinds of peripheral subjects, fostering an interest in and excitement for learning itself. This book has prompted interest for me in several different areas for further reading and I'm grateful for the author's extremely well-done work!It has been said you can still smell the molasses till this day.... This was an excellent well written book about one of Boston’s well known disasters. It provided great incite about the Molasses spill from how the tank was built and the failure thereof and the resultant disaster and those would whose live were impacted and of those who sadly lost their lives or lived with the injuries and pain received for years to come. What I also found enjoyable was the parallel history of Boston and the United States during that time period. A cast of characters from Boston’s famed politicians up to the anarchy America was experiencing. It kept the book interesting to say the least. As a young patrolman with the City of Boston, I can remember working with other Officers that while driving past the location of the molasses spill saying that on a hot summers day you could still smell the molasses rising up in the air. The book was interesting enough to be a quick read and enjoyable...A Truly Great Book Author Stephen Puleo has done it again. In this book, he has taken a relatively obscure event and told us an incredible story. The historical part is expertly researched by him and full of insight not previously well known. He gives us the historical context of the times when this event took place and more than that, he describes the people victimized in this deadly incident and their life, their passions, their plights. We become one of them.In addition, he focuses on the evil conspirators of the entire incident, the ones dedicated to their quest for money and power and the unwitting spineless co-conspirators.I cannot tell what a page turner this book is and how surprisingly important the entire event became to me as I read it.Puleo never disappoints. His books are so well researched, his stories so intricate and detailed as a result.

Elon Musk Download

ISBN: B00UVY52JO
Title: Elon Musk Pdf Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future

In the spirit of Steve Jobs and Moneyball, Elon Musk is both an illuminating and authorized look at the extraordinary life of one of Silicon Valley's most exciting, unpredictable, and ambitious entrepreneurs - a real-life Tony Stark - and a fascinating exploration of the renewal of American invention and its new makers.

Elon Musk spotlights the technology and vision of Elon Musk, the renowned entrepreneur and innovator behind SpaceX, Tesla, and SolarCity, who sold one of his Internet companies, PayPal, for $1.5 billion. Ashlee Vance captures the full spectacle and arc of the genius' life and work, from his tumultuous upbringing in South Africa and flight to the United States to his dramatic technical innovations and entrepreneurial pursuits.

Vance uses Musk's story to explore one of the pressing questions of our age: Can the nation of inventors and creators who led the modern world for a century still compete in an age of fierce global competition? He argues that Musk - one of the most unusual and striking figures in American business history - is a contemporary, visionary amalgam of legendary inventors and industrialists, including Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, Howard Hughes, and Steve Jobs. More than any other entrepreneur today, Musk has dedicated his energies and his own vast fortune to inventing a future that is as rich and far reaching as the visionaries of the golden age of science-fiction fantasy.

Don't ask for permission to do something great. One of the most inspiring books I have ever read. A few life changing points for me:1) First intro chapter shows how relentless the author was. Great lesson there. He didn't ask for permission, he just went out and wrote it. Said he was going to write it with or without him on board. Which ultimately won Elon's respect since that's how he operates too.2) Elon and his brother Kimbal coming over at 18 years old from south Africa. Their tactic about picking up the newspaper and cold calling the most interesting people to take to lunch is awesome. I challenge myself to do this now and I think its a great strategy to get out of your comfort zone. I gather he had the idea for pay pal with that tactic - it landed him the bank internship where he discovered the inefficiencies of banking world.3) Elon has no "fear" button. Inhuman ability to withstand massive risks, pressure, and family drama all at once.4) I bought 20 books. That's how much I loved it. Would call up and take a "mad scientist" or business investor or tesla owner For coffee/lunch/networking and tell them about how great this book is and see what crazy ideas they had brewing as well. Started connecting them together and meeting all kinds of moonshot thinkers. Great Networking Icebreaker.5) Requested a tesla charging station be installed at my place of work because well...we need to encourage more telsas around here and If Elon stops by we will be ready.6) Googled Justine found her Ted talk she did about him And enjoyed Elons commencement speech too. 7) Started an interest in this whole solar idea, Bought a solar cell phone charger that will be a gateway into way Into it and go from there. Tours of people that have solar homes in the area.8) Most ambitious dude ever with this whole Mars thing.9) After you read this book you will never again complain about being busy.10) I didn't realize Larry Page and Elon were so close. Hope he is wrong about the AI thing though, but also triggered me to buy the book "the singularity is near"I love the impact of the cover and I write a favorite quote in and give as a gift of inspiration to innovators in the area.Fantastic insight into Musk and his ecosystem The best thing I have read on Elon Musk so far (and from what I understand, the only one that he has participated in himself). Vance is an excellent writer, and you may or may not be familiar with him from Bloomberg Business and other high profile writings. I loved the insight into Musk and how he operates, and you get a very broad and complete picture of Musk as a driven visionary that is absolutely set on delivering some of the most aspirational goals of any human in history. You also get some great insight into the overall ecosystem around Musk - his companies (SpaceX and Tesla primarily), relationships with other companies and gov entities, as well as the important people around him. Many bios give you a timeline of the person, but little insight into the broader context and I appreciated that in this book. You get unique insight into his personal relationships, how he coped with things that went wrong (not always a pretty story), and how he manages through both failure and success. Since you learn so much about his childhood and formative years, you get a good grounding on why he is the way he is, and how those relationships developed. Finally, you get a lot of detail around 'green' industry, space exploration, etc. which really fills out this ecosystem and delivers an inspiring and educational view of one of the most intriguing people of our lifetimes. The book almost seems to ask "What are you going to go out and reinvent?" Well worth reading and even gifting to friends who may be fans.

The Theory of Everything Free Pdf

ISBN: B07K8YH9FQ
Title: The Theory of Everything Pdf The Quest to Explain All Reality

At the end of his career, Albert Einstein was pursuing a dream far more ambitious than the theory of relativity. He was trying to find an equation that explained all physical reality - a theory of everything. He failed, but others have taken up the challenge in a remarkable quest that is shedding light on unsuspected secrets of the cosmos.

Experimental physicist and award-winning educator Dr. Don Lincoln of the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory takes you on this exciting journey in The Theory of Everything: The Quest to Explain All Reality. Suitable for the intellectually curious at all levels and assuming no background beyond basic high-school math, these 24 half-hour lectures cover recent developments at the forefront of particle physics and cosmology, while delving into the history of the centuries-long search for this holy grail of science.

You trace the dream of a theory of everything through Newton, Maxwell, Einstein, Bohr, Schrödinger, Feynman, Gell-Mann, Weinberg, and other great physicists, charting their progress toward an all-embracing, unifying theory. Their resulting equations are the masterpieces of physics, which Dr. Lincoln explains in fascinating and accessible detail. Studying them is like touring a museum of great works of art - works that are progressing toward an ultimate, as-yet-unfinished masterpiece.

PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.

If you want to learn beyond available in popular books The Theory of Everything is an extraordinarily well-presented course on the topic. The course is not for everyone. There are sections with equations - while fairly elementary for those in the field - that require decent mathematical knowledge. Plus, the course frequently tackles scientific details that are difficult to wrap one’s head around. Effectively, the course goes far beyond what one reads in popular books on the subjects. The upshot is there is a lot new for everyone except perhaps the experts. For example, the course provides brilliant insights into the likely rationale behind the belief in the super-symmetry or the reasons behind the scientist community’s fascination with string theories. Such explanations are possible because of the arguments set out and proven with care before. The course’s best moments are when it explains the incongruity between general relativity and quantum mechanics. This reviewer has not come across better explanations on what makes the quantum gravity so difficult to formulate, despite the endless discussions in hundreds of popular books. While the Particle Physics sections are most detailed, and the quantum gravity explanations most illuminating, the professor has many other impressive sections/sub-sections on weak and strong nuclear forces, the basic cosmology, the dimensions that turn up in any equations that go beyond the standard model, the underlying realities of quarks, etc.A great course for anyone interested in the topic.
