Title: Notorious RBG Pdf The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Irin Carmon: I heard you can do 20 push-ups.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Yes, but we do 10 at a time. And then I breathe for a bit and do the second set.

Nearly a half century into being a feminist and legal pioneer, something funny happened to Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg: The octogenarian won the Internet. Across America, people who weren't even born when Ginsburg made her name are tattooing themselves with her face, setting her famously searing dissents to music, and making viral videos in tribute. In a class of its own, and much to Ginsburg's own amusement, is the Notorious RBG Tumblr, which juxtaposes the diminutive but fierce Jewish grandmother with the 350-pound rapper featuring original artwork submitted from around the world.

Notorious RBG: The Life and Times of Ruth Bader Ginsburg offers a rich, intimate, unprecedented look at the justice and how she changed the world. From Ginsburg's refusal to let the slammed doors of sexism stop her to her innovative legal work, from her before-its-time feminist marriage to her perch on the nation's highest court - with the fierce dissents to match - get to know RBG as never before. As the country struggles with the unfinished business of gender equality and civil rights, Ginsburg stands as a testament to how far we can come with a little chutzpah.

boy am I disappointed I've been a huge fan of RBG and was looking forward to a thorough account and analysis of her life, career, and achievements. But this just isn't it.Sure it glosses over some major legal milestones, but it spends as much time on her workouts, wardrobe, baby pictures, etc. It contains a mere 200 sparsely printed but amply (and beautifully) illustrated pages, and really offers little other than coffee table amusement to any normal adult. I'm planning on either donating this to my son's middleschool library or gift it to a progressive minded pre-teen girl; that's the audience this book is pitched at.My fault, I guess. It's a lesson learned in online shopping; I should have gone to a physical bookstore to browse before buying.Giving 2 stars because it may be good for the right audience, i.e., inspiring pre-teens to the idea of public service.Don't get the Kindle version... :( Great so far, but DO NOT get the Kindle version. There are a lot of interesting pictures/graphics that contribute to the book and you will be very very sad to have to look at them on a Kindle screen - the adaptation is terrible. At least now, its more expensive than the hardcover version, which is ridiculous. I flipped through the actual book and it is laid out well and aesthetically pleasing... the Kindle version is not that at all. I'm really disappointed.Really makes clear why she didn't retire earlier An excellent book and very inspiring. I'm glad there is someone like her on the Supreme Court. One thing that stuck out for me was her explanation as to why she didn't retire early so that Obama could put in a good replacement for her. And the explanation was that many women have been pushed out early. And trying to push women out so they can make room for others isn't right. People were also trying to push out Breyer but RGB was the one getting most of the press for not leaving.

How to Read Water Download

ISBN: B01LBVDAP8
Title: How to Read Water Pdf Clues and Patterns from Puddles to the Sea
A New York Times Bestseller
A Forbes Top 10 Conservation and Environment Book of 2016

Read the sea like a Viking and interpret ponds like a Polynesian—with a little help from the “natural navigator”!

In his eye-opening books The Lost Art of Reading Nature’s Signs and The Natural Navigator, Tristan Gooley helped readers reconnect with nature by finding direction from the trees, stars, clouds, and more. Now, he turns his attention to our most abundant—yet perhaps least understood—resource.

Distilled from his far-flung adventures—sailing solo across the Atlantic, navigating with Omani tribespeople, canoeing in Borneo, and walking in his own backyard—Gooley shares hundreds of techniques in How to Read Water. Readers will:

  • Find north using puddles
  • Forecast the weather from waves
  • Decode the colors of ponds
  • Spot dangerous water in the dark
  • Decipher wave patterns on beaches, and more!

Disappointed If you've spent considerable time around, in, or on water, many of the most useful concepts in this book are going to be super obvious to you, and a complete bore.As other reviewers have mentioned: It often feels like the author is trying to sell himself, or, the historic application of certain concepts rather than teach the concepts. There is a lot of redundancy and preface to each concept; it feels like the book could be 1/3rd the length. If you want to learn to read water, spend a few dollars on a used copy of a William Nealy book, and you'll likely learn far more, far faster, and have a lot more fun.A different way to look at water, and never do you have to get your feet wet. Bottom Line First: Tristan Gooleys’ How to Read Water is a mostly entertaining introduction to what is for other people, in other times and places frequently a matter of life and death. Readers of How to Read Water are most likely people like me, arm chair adventurers with a curious mind for what is an unusual idea for a book. How to Read is not the one book to take with you if you are to navigate the Islands of the Pacific or survive along the frozen coastlines in the far north or south. If you are traveling to these places, preferably in some comfort, and want to have a taste of how to keep it simple, Tristan Gooley is your man.The style is breezy and friendly but with a little too much repetition. By about chapter three everyone will know that you will never see much less derive practical value from any of the highlighted clues and patterns unless you take to time to look for them and then more time to enjoy them and then remember the paragraph he wrote telling you why this or that phenomena is important. Never does it occur to Gooley that he is repeating himself on this point. He also has a tendency to flirt with the precious. We are to enthuse about everything he is enthusiastic about even if it seems a tad trite or esoteric. I know for example there are several types of puddles, there are several types of everything, but I remain unclear as to when some of them collect water on the south side of a road and when on the north. Given how specific he can be about things like directions and compass points he can be a little casual about possible changes as one travels across the equator. All of this is to be a tad too critical. Armed with a nice cuppa tea or perhaps a aged postprandial port a reader safely ensconced in an overstuffed leather chair with feet nicely propped can get a fast tour through a world where one can navigate across the Atlantic using nothing more than ancient Norse sailing instructions. A reader need not brave sea sickness or a salt drenching of their expensive North Face Outdoor togs and still get a glimpse into understanding how the Polynesian peoples found, populated and lived among widely spaced islands without any of the minimal technology that now dominates a westerner brave enough to navigate farther than the nearest grocery store.Tristan Gooley knows how to tell a good sea story and add in some arcane and unlikely facts without coming off as too much of a geek. How to Read Water is not a very good how to book , but it is a lot of information from a friendly writer talking to people who may never have an outdoorsmanly use for a tidy little book with an eye catching title and lots of fun facts.A Book That Is Big on Hype but Short on Lessons. I really wanted to like this book. I love the concept of it. I can see it's potential. But this book does not really teach you much about the concepts. It plays like a very long advertising similar to a get rich scheme. Where you get little snippets here and there to keep you interested but at the end of day, not really knowing much about how to apply these concepts because the author primarily gives you "success stories" of these concepts being used. Little on the "how".Which makes me feel short changed when the title starts with exactly that. Maybe the author is hoping the book will sell his "hands-on" classes. But in my opinion, if you short change me on information in the book, I have no reason to conclude that you won't do the same in the hands-on classes.I didn't expect to know everything from one book, but I do feel there should be much more how-to in here than there is if it's supposed to be a how-to book. I didn't buy it to primarily read excerpts on other people or the author having used the concepts successfully.

ISBN: 1250313570
Title: The Moment of Lift Pdf How Empowering Women Changes the World
Author: Melinda Gates
Published Date: 2019-04-23
Page: 224

Melinda French Gates is a philanthropist, businesswoman, and global advocate for women and girls.

The Moment of Lift is an urgent call to courage. It changed how I think about myself, my family, my work, and what’s possible in the world. Melinda weaves together vulnerable, brave storytelling and compelling data to make this one of those rare books that you carry in your heart and mind long after the last page.”

―BrenĂ© Brown, Ph.D., author of the New York Times #1 bestseller Dare to Lead

A debut from Melinda Gates, a timely and necessary call to action for women's empowerment.

“How can we summon a moment of lift for human beings – and especially for women? Because when you lift up women, you lift up humanity.”

For the last twenty years, Melinda Gates has been on a mission to find solutions for people with the most urgent needs, wherever they live. Throughout this journey, one thing has become increasingly clear to her: If you want to lift a society up, you need to stop keeping women down.

In this moving and compelling book, Melinda shares lessons she’s learned from the inspiring people she’s met during her work and travels around the world. As she writes in the introduction, “That is why I had to write this book―to share the stories of people who have given focus and urgency to my life. I want all of us to see ways we can lift women up where we live.”

Melinda’s unforgettable narrative is backed by startling data as she presents the issues that most need our attention―from child marriage to lack of access to contraceptives to gender inequity in the workplace. And, for the first time, she writes about her personal life and the road to equality in her own marriage. Throughout, she shows how there has never been more opportunity to change the world―and ourselves.

Writing with emotion, candor, and grace, she introduces us to remarkable women and shows the power of connecting with one another.

When we lift others up, they lift us up, too.

(Please note that nutritional information is provided with every recipe, but the most up-to-date Weight Watchers points can be found online on the Skinnytaste website.)

WW owns the point system and so the points will never be included in her cookbooks! 1. STOP COMPLAINING THAT SHE IS NOT INCLUDING THE WEIGHT WATCHERS POINTS! Weight Watchers OWNS the point system and Gina will NEVER publish the WW points for her recipes, nor will any other author be able to. EVER. She states this very clearly on her blog and in the cookbooks, but apparently people would rather complain than read & comprehend.2. She gives complete nutritional information for every single recipe and she has made the recipes far healthier than they normally are! Stop complaining!3. Her recipes are not specifically made for diabetics or those with sodium restrictions. I have no clue why people expect a cookbook to meet their exact dietary restrictions and then complain when it does not - this book is not stated to fulfill either restriction.I was VERY impressed with this book, especially in comparison to the 2nd, which I did NOT care for at all (most recipes were from her blog, with little or no changes. 4-5 pages were dedicated to toast and taco toppings each. Waste of time & space.) The food photography is well done and therefore makes the book a pleasure to look through. I think it is far better organized than her 1st two books were and the index is MUCH easier to navigate this time! The variety of recipes is much larger than in the 1st two books and while there are some blog favorites included, most are new recipes. I can honestly say there are a lot of recipes in this book that I plan on cooking that I would never have tried normally, as I consider myself a poor cook! She makes them look that good and the recipes that easy to prepare! For those without an IP or airfryer, yes she provides alternate stovetop/oven cooking methods.I personally think this is the best of the 3 books, in terms of organization, appeal & variety. Far superior to the 2nd cookbook for sure!Skinnytaste's best book I made the quickest Gnocchi Bolognese from page 147 and as always it was so delicious, even though I used almond milk, skipped the ricotta and used trader joe's cauliflower gnocchi! ( I am Lactose intolerant ) I can already see this gorgeous cookbook being my most used book this winter season. I live in NYC and busy, these one-pot meals will be such a time saver for me. I was actually peeved that her last book did not contain many one-pot mealsNext up on my list is the Shrimp tempura bowl, Arroz con pollo, chickpea mofongo, turkey and sweet potatoes dinner, chicken souvlaki dinner ... :)I notice some unfair reviews left for this book, Gina is not affiliated with weight watchers and this is not a weight watchers book! Thank god for the rest of us who are not fans of the program and just want to eat healthy balanced meals. Also, these are one pot meals! logically the calories are going to be higher than are other books which focused on just sides or entrees etc. !I am lactose intolerant and yes there are many cheese recipes, Skinny taste recipes often contain milk products so no surprise there but you can easily find substitutes and aged hard cheeses are safe for us who are just moderately intolerant from what I read.So if you are Paleo, low carb, Keto or whatever the latest fad is these days, this book is not for youIf you love cooking using your instant pot, air fryer, sheet pans or grills to churn out quick, delicious, healthy family-friendly meals then this should be your go-to book this winter seasonBest Skinnytaste cookbook so far I received my Kindle version overnight and have been looking at the recipes all morning, trying to decide what to try first. Every recipe looks delicious, and uses easy to find ingredients, and none look bad to to me. The illustrations are beautiful. I own all 3 Skinnytaste cookbooks and this one is already my favorite.
